UPCYCLE - DOCUMENTARY 2017
Sailing the streets of Toronto
A group of anarchist cycling aficionados get together to create a safe space where street sailors can fix their bikes and learn from the best pirates in town.
I originated the story with the Bike Pirates then I passed it on to Sara Linares to direct. It was a six-month process, learning about the organization, watching them interact and teach others fix their bike. With no internet, at the shop or even a phone line the communication was always a barrier. This nine-minute documentary tells the story of non-profit teaching others to fix their bike for as little as you can afford to pay them. It is a strictly donation based organization with the ultimate goal of getting your bike safe to be on the road. The tight-knit community feeds and cooks the mechanics while they're fixing their bike.
