Picture-Perfect Love: Tips to Keep in Mind Before Your Engagement Photoshoot
July 7, 2022

I had the pleasure of meeting Rachael and Wes through Mark and his best friend Annie, who happens to be Wes' sister. When they approached us in 2021 to be a part of their upcoming wedding celebrations, we were truly honoured! Before diving into their wedding plans, we kicked off their journey with an unforgettable engagement session.

Rachael and Wes have a remarkable family connection with a big property. So, we ventured into the beautiful surroundings during their session, capturing stunning moments along the way. Often, couples express concerns about feeling awkward or looking unnatural in front of the camera. However, I can confidently say that this session was anything but that. With their impeccable outfits, bouncy curls, and perfect weather, Rachael and Wes truly embraced the experience and had a blast throughout the session.

Now, let's dive into some helpful tips to consider before your own engagement session:

  1. Choose the Perfect Location: Select a location that holds significance for you as a couple or reflects your shared interests. Whether it's a scenic park, a vibrant cityscape, or a sentimental spot where you first met, opting for a meaningful location adds depth and personalization to your photos.
  2. Coordinate Your Outfits with Style: Creating a cohesive and visually pleasing look is important, but it doesn't mean you have to be overly matchy or tacky. Coordinate your outfits with your partner, choosing complementary colours and styles that reflect your personalities. The goal is for both of you to feel comfortable, confident, and authentically yourselves. Avoid overpowering patterns or distracting logos that might take away from the focus on your genuine connection.
  3. Embrace an Open Mind: By selecting a photographer you love and trust, you've already taken a big step. Now, it's time to let go of any preconceived notions and trust the process. Allow your photographer to work their magic and capture the unique essence of your love story.
  4. Communicate with Your Photographer: Openly discuss your expectations, preferences, and any specific shots you desire with your photographer. Share your love story and discuss the overall mood or theme you envision for your engagement photos. Effective communication will enable your photographer to capture your unique connection in a way that feels authentic and true to your relationship.
  5. Relax and Have Fun: Remember, this session is a celebration of your love. Take a deep breath, enjoy each other's company, and let your natural chemistry shine through. Embrace candid moments, share laughter, and express genuine affection. When you're relaxed and having fun, your photos will radiate with authenticity and joy.

Above all, trust is the key. Let me share with you some of the heartfelt messages I received from Rachael following their engagement session. Both she and Wes were ecstatic with the outcome, and it was evident that the experience had exceeded their expectations. Witnessing couples surprise themselves with the magic captured through my lens is the greatest reward as a photographer.

So, as you embark on your own engagement session, remember to embrace trust, communication, and most importantly, enjoy every moment of this beautiful chapter in your love story. I can't wait to be there on your day.

With love,

Suzy Queen
